TL;DR: this anime show exactly what you should do if you want to fail. Lupin VIII is the adventure of the 8th generation of Lupin. Because this pilot was juste a pilot, there aren't voices. But that's not a real problem. You need first to know that this anime was a collobaration between the Japanese studio and... a French studio. First error: going on the Land of Arsène Lupin where copyrights would not let you do whatever you want. The history is a total change of Lupin. All the characters were "Westerned" for fitting the "Western Audience". For an anime which already was quite "good" in that regard. Lupin isn'ta thief, but now a detective. Why not? Arsène Lupin in one of his story actually played the detective, and even in Lupin III you've a bunch of detective stories. Jigen is totally changed, he don't smoke anymore (well, given the situation of France during the time it's normal, you can't put someone smoking), but now he got a... lollipop. He's not anymore the ol' Jigen, and that's very strange. Goemon now use a laser sword... Finally Zenigata don't have a reason to exist anymore. He is merely a rival of Lupin, because of Lupin III vs. Zenigata. He carry now a pipe which isn't "real' (it's a communicator), that's probably a reference to Commissaire Maigret a famous detective. Globally this episode is very weak. The "story" could have been good, but it's just a lot of changes which aren't how Lupin III is. All the changes just make this bad, and laughable. You can watch it, if you're watching all the Lupin. Or if you just want to watch an episode of something badly made. Idea of doing a Lupin in futur as a detective could have been good. Even though being a thief is good for "being a hero" (let's remind us about Arsène Lupin! He's a thief and he was well accepted by the people!). All the changes to be more "western" are where the thing went bad. 5/10. Because the had good ideas, and he's still... a Lupin.

Now that I saw everything related to lupine, I can say that I became a fan of the series (although the term fan I don't like to use it) let's just say that if something new comes out, be sure that I would see it without hesitation I preferred to see everything about lupine for a reason to understand what this series was about (at that time I only knew about the extent of this verse from what I read in MAL but I did not go into detail until today that I saw it. I do not want to get into technicalities since that is notgood for me and I am of the idea that if I do not know a certain issue, why do I comment so I will only say my point of view on this version At first glance it is a totally different change to what is seen in the original lupine now we have our protagonist as a detective to jigen as his faithful assistant (forget about the original) to goemon with a lightsaber to fujiko does not have such significant changes but only I will say that he does not have that eroticism and sexy dress (those who have seen lupine will know what I am talking about) and zenigata let's just say that he is the "rival" of Lupine VIII and opaque to being a secondary character and without importance. The story is basically Lupine VIII trying to solve a mystery for a girl, Jigen joins the case and Goemon is taking care of the girl and everything unfolds as a regular chapter of the original series. Now much can be said about this anime but at the same time very little since this version never came out (it can be seen on YouTube with a quality without voices since these were not recorded) although reading a little more about this I found that in total 6 chapters were produced of which the first is the one that is ending except for the voices and the last 5 are only short of the chapter (which you can find on the blue ray and DVD "The Master File") The curious thing is that one may think that this version never came out because it did not have a good acceptance but the reality is that it was due to copyright with the name of lupine. In conclusion it could be a good version but I do not like the idea of seeing lupine being a detective and zenigata without a reason to exist to jigen and goemon seeing them as best friends and not as "rivals" and a fujiko who is a light year from be like the original. Seeing this in the current era in my opinion would not be a good idea since animes set in the futuristic space are not seen many these days and taking into account that lupine although it is an anime with a good trajectory is not an anime at all. that much attention is paid to it. If you are a fan of lupine or enjoy its adventures you can see it without any problem since it is a rare piece and this type of material is not seen every day and more in excellent quality Greetings and thanks for reading
