This story is about a girl, Candy, who is an orphan. She is a nice and optimistic girl and she has a warm heart. When she was a child, she lived in an orphanage called Pony's Home. She had a good friend called Annie. And she met the "Prince of the Hill" who is a important person in her life, on the hill behind the orphanage. She was adopted by the Leagan family. What's awaiting her are the bad-hearted Neil and his sister, Eliza. One day, in the rose garden, she met a boy, who is identical to the "Prince of the Hill" who she had met in her childhood. His name is Anthony. Thereafter, a fantastic story that she has never expected begins. (Source: AnimeNfo)

This will be a very personal review. Candy Candy is one of those animes that have a lasting impact. I got to watch it when I was a child living in Dominican Republic, many of us would then talk about Candy Candy and even get together to watch it. The music is memorable and the characters were so engaging. It wasn't magical, it was simple drama with things that one might typically engage in at some schools and life in general. The bullies, moving forward through all kinds of difficulties and set backs, dealing with difficult people, and all the while staying positive. Therewere so many great messages in this anime. It was a soap opera for young kids and it was definitely sometimes painful and sometimes fun to watch.

Nothing but respect for this one. Mizuki has done an amazing job on the characters.Love, death, loss, despare, joy are all portrayed with a touch of innocence that this day is hard to find. Igarashi was just excellent in her illustrations. Watanabe's score is atrue masterpiece.Salida hacia la Esperanza still hunts me to this day. Candy Candy has written History with its success in so many different countries (Spain,Greece,Italy,France etc) and has gained enormous popularity all across Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As a result it also boosted the anime/manga mania and helped the specific form of art be established and known across the world. A shoujo that managed tobe loved equally by males and females,Candy with its lovable(and love to hate) characters, thrilling plots and beautiful graphics proved to be a true Classic.Generations have grown watching this classic anime and the fact that after almost 40 years it still receives the same amount of love, for me just says it all. You can still find up to this day, forums dedicated to Candy, fanfiction, artwork inspired from the show etc. A true Leader in its genre, i have nothing for respect for it.
