Tanis, a child genius, is the youngest son of two mad scientists. His family has spent their lives withdrawn from normal society living on an isolated island, where the couple conducts experiments on Tanis' siblings that result in them gaining abnormal abilities. However, this activity is put to a stop when they are caught and arrested. Tanis is brought by government officials to a more populated island, alongside his four siblings: Snow, a dog-human hybrid; Ashise, a plant-human hybrid; Aisley, a spider-human hybrid; and Suishi, a mind-reader. Being the only one who has not been genetically modified, Tanis takes on the responsibility of adapting his siblings to society, all while trying to conceal their' distinctive characteristics. Story- 9 art- 8 characters - 10 enjoyment- 8 overall- 8 What can I say? I really got exited for this anime, at first I thought "great another funny slice of life anime". I was really wrong about it. The story is about a boy named Deniss and his 4 siblings who were turned into monsters by their parents. the show shows how they suffer and try to live a normal life as a "human". the backstories are great too, they show how the characters had to cope at aa young age with their "psyhopatic" parents. The ep are quiet short and they left me empty after watching them, thestory also doesn't have a "main point" I mean if you refer to (little spoiler) Deniss is trying to change his siblings back to normal then it has, but often times eps are about random stuff. Well it is still a slice of life the anime is actually of chinese origin that's why many watched only to ep4, since that's the point were curently is translated in japanese. If you don't want to wait you better just watch the episodes in chinese since it ended airing.

Frankenstein Family is an extremely rare Chinese manga adaptation that focuses on family bonds and maintains that every episode. The short 20 minute episodes successfully trim out harems, convoluted love triangles, confusing plots, and fanservice. The plot itself is slice of life level mediocre, with the monster family's focus frequently shifting in different directions and the child genius main character Tanisu causing those deviations by always being 100% child and 0% genius. I still watched it every week on release day because it reliably showed them facing challenges. The art scrapes the barrel pretty low where instead of making full use of the fact thatthe characters are monsters living on a Chinese island, it feels like a barely interesting waterside town you can find anywhere. I suppose this is the most they could afford for a strictly promotional anime released simultaneously with the Japanese manga serialization. I'm personally very fond of woodwind, and they use it effectively in the show, however it does not work effectively in more dramatic scenes. The main cast are innocent in the truest sense of the word as they are the results of scientist parents who viewed them only as test subjects but love them unconditionally. Which is ironic considering that they spend the entire show being suspicious of all the intensely generous people around them, creating a fulfilling sense of tension. You'll notice that the family hangs out together all the time despite them frequently getting into spats, and I think it defines their love much more vividly than other family focused anime. My favourite character is the plant-girl Ashise-neesan, and her character is summed up in what she's introduced as the siblings are fighting: "Ahh! The sunlight today tastes like strawberries!" The show is isn't changing anyone's lives with it being a cashgrab, but it presents a fresh approach to characters that I definitely want to see more of in the future. Is it worth your time? Sure.
